Dan the Fabric Man: the Blog
It seems like yesterday since my scheduled trip to last year's quilt market in St. Louis was canceled at the last minute. What to do with the two shirts I made to wear in the Patrick Lose Fabrics booth at market? "Start a blog!" was comment from a co-worker. "Why not?" I thought.
A Year of Sewing Projects
I have sewn more in the past year than in the last five years combined, given that I am now trying to find interesting things to post every week. The past five years would include my final years at JOANN (where Dan the Fabric Man originated for internal videos made to share with the stores) and the transition to South Carolina, which included much time spent working on our new home here...not much sewing happening during that time.

Favorite Posts
It's been fun to push my creativity here. Regular readers know I like to interpret high-end and interesting ready-to-wear shirts, and there were quite a few included in the past 52 posts. The image above shows a fairly recent project with six fabrics engineered into one shirt, which was made to wear in the Patrick Lose Fabrics booth at this spring's quilt market. (Could I sew a solid-color shirt? Yes, but why would I do that? Zzzzzzzzzzzz.)

There was a patriotic shirt made by request of my friend, Larry (above), and a walk through my early sewing days with some blurry (and scary) photos from the early 1970s. And don't forget my rant about fabric quality misconceptions.

Quilts of Valor presentations (above), fabric store reviews (both local and those visited when traveling), quilt show commentary, new sewing products and a few sewing tips have also been a part of our past year together.

Many of you followed the Seersucker Suit Project over several weeks last summer, where I FINALLY worked up the oldest piece of fabric on my stash (tan/white seersucker stripe from the '70s) into a suit. It had been some time since I had tailored a jacket, and my skills were slightly rusty. I need to get another suit into the lineup soon to polish those skills.
Something New
Through it all I've had a lot of fun, brushed up on skills and learned new ones, and have enjoyed coming up with something to share every week. Instagram posts have been added to the mix recently. And as we begin our second year together, you'll see the new DTFM logo at the end of each post.
Until next time, keep those sewing machines humming; I appreciate your interest and look forward to our next sewing adventure together!
