Sewing for Halloween!
There are lots of crafty sewing ideas for Halloween out there. Usually these projects don't take much time or fabric, which fits well into our busy lives these day. It's not too late...here's a link for some ideas to get you started.

Pinterest also has some Halloween crafting ideas for fabric:
Halloween Apparel
I like sewing holiday clothing, mostly shirts, although I've been known to stitch up a costume or two over the years. When we moved to South Carolina last year, I purged my clothing, largely (no pun intended) because much of it no longer fit me. (Little did I know that a year later I would have dropped almost 30 pounds!) I kept the Halloween shirt that started it all back in the early 1990s; it's my first holiday shirt. This allover pumpkin print from VIP/Cranston still fits and the fabric has held up really well.

With my Halloween shirt inventory depleted, it was time to replenish this year. I have already shared in a previous post the Patrick Lose "Happy Halloween" shirt that I made recently to wear at this weekend's International Quilt Market where I'll be working in the Patrick Lose Fabrics booth.

Another fun new shirt is this polo shirt made from the Doodles brand Halloween knits I found at JOANN this year. The fabric is 100% cotton and there were about a dozen prints (and a few solids). I've been experimenting with sewing polo shirts this year (you may have read in earlier posts about some of the pitfalls I encountered). This shirt placket came out exactly as it should have; I finally realized that I was misinterpreting an image in the pattern instructions. (Only took me four shirts to get it right!)

Tie It Up
Returning to my sewing roots, I sometimes make ties as well. (I started out my sewing adventures by making ties, way back in 1969.) These days, I make reversible ties, mostly from cotton prints, using the pattern that came with my Fasturn loop turner (covered in a post from June). These are quick and easy, and are two ties in one. This example features a pumpkin print from Alexander Henry Fabrics and a stripe that was part of the old Debbie Mumm holiday fabric collections we ran at JOANN back in 2008.

Even though there are only a few days left until Halloween, there's plenty of time to whip up something creative, using fabric from your stash, or picking up a late-season markdown in your local fabric store. Whether you decide to create costume accents, trick or treat bags or decor, take some time and have a little Halloween sewing fun!
Until next time, keep those sewing machines humming!
